Lisa Pittman, LLC d/b/a Pittman Legal

For the past 25 years, I have been involved in regulatory, state, and federal commercial business litigation. Since 2015, I have applied my experience to the new and evolving field of cannabis law, including spending two years in Colorado to learn the ropes. Texas is almost there, and I have been a part of advocacy and of shaping the law here. I am appointed to the Texas Department of Agriculture Advisory Hemp Council, and to Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy, Drug Policy Program as a Non-Resident Fellow. I also work on laws nationwide and Chair the American Bar Association's Cannabis Law & Policy Committee, which won an award for most innovative and creative committee, as well as a Certificate of Appreciation from the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Chair for my work in bringing this committee to life.  Quite a feat in a very traditional and staid entity!

In marijuana and hemp, I advise clients on how to comply with the laws, and I leverage my network to link them to professionals and information they need to succeed. I negotiate contracts and counsel my clients based on my experience litigating breach of contract, employment, banking, fraud, fiduciary duty, construction defect, deceptive trade practices, premises liability, professional liability, product liability & complex insurance coverage issues, with the goal being my client to not have to litigate any of these.  I am a certified mediator and arbitrator, with the rare dual experience of real trial work and knowledge of cannabis law in multiple states.  I'd love to serve as your neutral to solve a dispute.

I represent everyone in the supply chain including investors, farmers, manufacturers, distributors, labs, retailers, as well as banks and research institutions. I assist with risk management, business development, strategy, and licensing.  I have a lot of expertise in applying for medical marijuana licenses in competitive states.  I enjoy helping clients accomplish their goals and dreams.

I speak and write regularly to professional groups - I enjoy educating, which is essential to spur progress. I presented the ABA's first marijuana law CLE at its annual meeting in NYC in 2017. I am Vice-Chair of the Business Litigation, Corporate Counsel, and Product Liability Committees. I write for the Tort, Trial and Insurance Practice Law Journal, serve on TortSource editorial board, and I graduated from ABA Leadership Academy in 2015.  I graduated from the Austin Bar Association Leadership Academy in 2016, and Leadership Austin Essentials in 2017.  I guess I'm a leadership junkie, and these programs were great in propelling me to lead as an early expert on cannabis law.  The practice of law is a lot more fun now!
