Description
This presentation explores the potential impact of U.S. tariffs on the smokeables, cannabis, and hemp industries, focusing on how trade policy changes could influence supply chains, equipment costs, and global competitiveness, and how attorneys can protect against or help clients prepare for those impacts. Because cannabis and hemp businesses rely heavily on imported materials—such as vape technology, packaging supplies, and processing equipment—tariffs on these goods could lead to rising operational costs, squeezing already tight profit margins. Furthermore, with hemp being federally legal, but cannabis still restricted at the federal level, the industry faces unique regulatory and trade barriers that may be exacerbated by protectionist trade policies. This hour aims to provide insight into how businesses can adapt strategically, advocating and preparing for clearer regulations, and exploring options to mitigate the effects of our shifting international trade dynamics.
