I began my legal career as an in-house transactional attorney for Continental Bank NA working on secured loan transactions and related matters. When the Continental legal department was closed in early 1991, I continued my banking and transactional practice by joining Crowley, Barrett & Karaba, Ltd. where my practice areas were expanded to include, among other things, corporate transactions and commercial workouts. My partners and I closed the firm in the summer of 2016 and since then I have maintained a concierge-style general counsel practice focusing on representation of companies, financial institutions and private investment groups in transactions of all sizes and varieties.
My practice also includes representing hotel and casino owners and operators in their development and operation of entertainment and lodging facilities across North America and the Caribbean.
Finally, I have taken a lead role in the preparation of applications for teams applying for Illinois adult-use cannabis dispensary, craft grower, infusion and transportation licenses. I am the lead author of Illinois Adult-Use Cannabis: Cannabis Knowledge for Principal Officers, an Illinois-focused cannabis e-book available on Amazon, intended as an education tool for the boardroom, not the budtender. Most recently, I have founded a craft-grower focused trade association and involved in the process of helping push the State of Illinois to move forward with the issuance of those licenses.
My hobbies include travel and fishing, as well as building and racing cars in endurance racing events in the Midwest.
