I have spent most of my career as a lawyer in the courtroom, either prosecuting criminal cases or defending people charged with criminal offenses. From 2009 through 2016 I worked as a marijuana lawyer setting up cannabis businesses, locating property locations for clients, working on their business formations and reviewing commercial leases, working with the state regulatory agency to insure clients' businesses were run within the bounds of Colorado regulations and statutes. I presented at and coordinated the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for the Colorado Bar Association, wrote the book Colorado Medical Marijuana Laws (Bradford; 2012), and wrote a column for Culture magazine from 2011 through 2016. For a number of years I was a successful mediator for the Administrative Office of the Courts in North Carolina. In my earlier career, I had a real estate practice and practiced Family Law.
