Here Comes the Money: Banking and Payment Processing in the Cannabis Industry. Banking and payment processing has long been one of the most misunderstood aspects of operating within the cannabis industry. This panel of experts will explore the current state of banking and payments in cannabis and how to utilize these services legally.

Tyler Beuerlein, Chief Strategic Business Development Officer, Safe Harbor Financial

In his role at Safe Harbor Financial as Chief Strategic Business Development Officer, Tyler leverages his extensive experience in building brands, managing key relationships and strategic partnerships. Tyler has been at the forefront of the cannabis industry over eight years and touches Financial Institutions, Government Officials, Regulatory Bodies and the State Legal Cannabis industry.

Cassandra Ingram, General Counsel, CanPay

As General Counsel for CanPay, Cassandra manages compliance and legal matters involving privacy, cybersecurity, payments and financial regulation of the fintech space. 

Professional background is in government investigations and enforcement, policy work, business accounting, and civil litigation. Educational background includes degrees in Law (JD), Criminal Justice (MACJ), Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship (LLM), and a bachelor's degree in science (BS). Teaching background at Bellevue College (Criminal Law) and Seattle University School of Law (Introduction to Fintech). 

Legal interests include anti-money laundering compliance/legislation, privacy/data protection, and blockchain technology.

Zachary Kobrin, Partner, Saul Ewing LLP

A regulatory and transactional lawyer by background, Zack Kobrin is a nationally recognized leader in cannabis law. Having previously served as the Vice President and General Counsel for one of the largest cannabis companies in the U.S. and as the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer for a publicly traded, multi-state cannabis company, Zack’s practice focuses on cannabis, marijuana, and hemp law. In his prior capacity, Zack was responsible for all corporate and regulatory legal matters, including transactional, banking, and insurance matters; as well as ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local government regulations. Zack was also a key member of the team that helped take his former company public on the Canadian Securities Exchange.

Zack’s practice involves advising clients on the evolving, complex legal and business issues impacting companies with interests in this heavily regulated industry, including all manner of corporate, real estate, and regulatory legal issues. He speaks frequently at business, legal, and industry events and advises a number of entities on areas such as business development and formation, as well as legal and regulatory and compliance issues in the emerging growth cannabis, marijuana, and hemp industries throughout the United States and international markets. Zack also advises clients on developing federal and state public policy matters and banking and insurance issues impacting clients in the cannabis, marijuana, and hemp industries.

In addition to his work in the cannabis industry, Zack’s practice focuses on antitrust, where he advises clients on the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) review and filing process required to obtain federal antitrust approval for certain mergers and acquisitions. Zack works with clients on HSR reportability and transaction structure issues to ensure compliance with federal antitrust regulatory requirements.

Peter Su, CTP, CCBP, CCCE, GRCP, GRCA, IDPP, ACBP, CBE, Director of Specialty Banking, Hanover Bank

Peter is a banking executive with 20+ years of experience across the banking and financial services spectrum. He has personally spearheaded 3 cannabis banking programs as team lead at commercial banks, and has acted as a consultant to dozens of other FIs banking cannabis across the country.

An active member of the cannabis industry, Peter is currently on the executive board of the Asian Cannabis Roundtable, serving as treasurer, and an advisory council member for the Minority Cannabis Academy. Additionally, he write about the cannabis industry for Rolling Stone on the Rolling Stone Cannabis Culture Council. 

Previously, he also held a position as an advisory panel board member for Pace University's Lubin School of Business. As well as served as a member of the Banking & Financial Services Committee for the National Cannabis Industry Association. And, he is a veteran of the United States Army
